Yeah, but why modern calligraphy?

Calligraphy is a S-L-O-W and meditative art form that can help:

Relieve stress

Combat anxiety

Induce a state of calm

It also demands the use of both hands, so doomscrolling is out.

Do I need to have good handwriting?

Hell no!

It doesn’t matter if you’re proud of your cursive or ashamed of your scribbles; from the first time you put your nib on paper, you’ll realise that calligraphy is an entirely different sport.

That’s why we’ll spend the first half hour going over how to use your new tools, including how to handle and care for your nib and how to hold your new calligraphy pen properly.

Secondly, people love seeing their name beautifully written — it’s a fact!

So once you’re vibing with your calligraphy pen, gift tags, cards and just-because notes all become an opportunity for you to spread a little love.

But let’s be honest; modern calligraphy is super cool, too.

Can you get all technical for a minute?

I sure can.

One ticket to my modern calligraphy workshop gets you:

2.5 hours of calligraphy instruction — after trying out your calligraphy goodies, I’ll walk you through the basic calligraphy strokes, before letters and then words

Personalised tuition — the class size is intentionally small so that you’ll receive all the help you need to leave confident in your new skill

Calligraphy tools — a specially selected beginner nib, nib holder for both left and right-handed learners, black calligraphy ink and a very cute pencil

Beginner workbook — everything you need for the class, along with bonus worksheets so you can continue your calligraphy journey at home

Calligraphy aftercare — access to a dedicated email for workshops attendees only, for post-workshop questions or if you need some advice on your next calligraphy purchase

Calligrapals — even though we’ll be dipping our nibs like we’re in the 1800s, there’ll be no pomp and circumstance, just lots of tea, chat and background tunes

If you’ve got Qs, take a look at these As

Q: Do I need to have good handwriting?
A: Definitely not! It doesn’t matter if you’re proud of your cursive or ashamed of your scribbles; from the first time you put your nib on paper, you’ll realise that calligraphy is an entirely different sport.

Q: Do I need to bring anything?
A: Nope, but the calligraphy ink may stain, so please dress accordingly.

Q: Will there be food and drink?
A: There will be self-serve tea and coffee and some sweet treats. Please feel free to bring your own snacks if you’d prefer.

Q: I’m left-handed — can I still learn?
A: Yes! Your calligraphy tools can be adjusted for lefties.

Q: Where can I park my car?
A: The Croft Road Car Park and Cattle Market Car Park are both a 5-minute walk from The Artery Studios.

Q: Do you offer refunds?
A: As places are limited, I don’t offer refunds — but you are welcome to transfer your booking to someone else if you can’t attend.

Q: Which beginner workshop should I pick?
A: The different themed workshops only affect the phrases we practice at the end of the class and the background music I pick — the core content remains the same, so it doesn’t matter which one you attend.

Have we met?

Oh, hi!

I’m Dani, and I’m a modern calligrapher and hand letterer, better known online as Rogue Letters.

When I’m not creating calligraphic stationery and signage for businesses and brides, I’m spreading the word about how awesome modern calligraphy is — one workshop at a time.

I started my calligraphy journey back in 2017 when I taught myself brush lettering with some Tombow brush pens and a pile of YouTube videos.

A year later, I put on my big girl pants and learned pointed pen calligraphy with an online tutor.

In 2019, I started selling my calligraphy online and at fayres, and even though a pandemic did its best to slow me down, I now work on calligraphy projects full time.

Lovely words from my equally lovely students:

“Easy to follow instructions and friendly vibes!”

I loved my personalised box, and being set up with everything I need to carry on at home.”

Clear and practical, hands-on advice. I felt I actually learned something.
Made to feel very welcome and received help where needed not criticism
She was so patient and talked through techniques step by step, I feel like a total pro now!
Perfect for me as an absolute beginner!
I loved all the goodies we got to keep so I can practice at home too. Would definitely recommend!
“I genuinely loved all of it!”
